Innovations in Renewable Energy for Electrifying Rural Areas in Developing Nations
Abstract
Access to reliable and affordable electricity remains a critical challenge in many rural areas of developing nations. This paper explores recent innovations in renewable energy technologies that are transforming the landscape of rural electrification. Focusing on solar photovoltaics, micro-hydropower, biomass, and wind energy, the study highlights how decentralized and off-grid solutions are overcoming infrastructural and economic barriers traditionally associated with rural energy access. It also examines the role of hybrid systems, smart microgrids, and innovative financing models—such as pay-as-you-go and community ownership—in enhancing sustainability and scalability.
